Fly sheets: helping your horse through insect season
Horseflies and flies make a summer pasture tiring for a horse. A fly sheet is a simple help when chosen correctly.

In summer insects are a real nuisance for horses. Constant tail swishing and stamping is tiring, and bites can itch.
The right size
The sheet must fit well: too big and it slips and rubs, too small and it pinches the withers and shoulders. Measure the horse before buying.
Light and breathable
A good fly sheet lets air through and does not make the horse hot. Light colours warm up less in the sun.
Daily check
Take the sheet off briefly every day, check the skin and make sure the straps are not rubbing.
Not only the sheet
A fly mask, insect repellent and a shady spot on the pasture also help.
